About Assemblages

Assemblage

A French word, it’s even fun saying it.  I love it. I can create my own narrative without the use of words. All those objects placed in juxtaposition to one another, says it all. It’s mindboggling to me  that an object can say more than a sentence and two can make a whole paragraph. AND it can mean a whole different thing to someone else. Wonder of wonders. How can we not love this art form? I use a box either as its own containment  for the collage and objects or make a box within a frame to house the more fragile objects or those I would prefer not be touched.  Usually some form of text on the back  “suggests’  the subject; not that my viewers need guidance, but it’s my meaning I want to convey.  I  constantly collect objects for my containments, either antique or found objects, wherever they present themselves. Some have great value, others only interest.  Some have resided in my studio for years before finding a home. A little part of me doesn’t want to part with any of them, but room becomes the issue. I feel a little part of who I am goes out the door with each and every one.
