About Watercolor Paintings

My favorite media is watercolor. Contrary to its reputation of being the hardest media to use I found the challenge exciting and worth the effort.  I began painting shortly after my move to St. Louis.  Prior to that , I had been concentrating on printmaking.  For lack of a press, watercolor presented itself.  It was instant attraction, and I never looked back.  It became my focus for years and due to the success I had, it drove me on.  I found floral themes suited me best.  It was the Shaw's Series and Perfect Gardens which became my inspiration.  I took license with reality when I painted but they were still recognizable and fairly accurate renditions of plants.  I was one of the first watercolorists to use a black background which I found to be a perfect solution to dramatize the plant forms.
