Ah ha, another made up word, but it is what it is. I “reconstruct” these books. The preface, Re= meaning change and construct to build. Kind of like building roads verses filling potholes! Taking the book, I manipulate the pages by folding down to the shape or format I desire. Much of the time the title suggests the form it takes AND it can be reversed. No glue has been added and the pages only changed by folds. They can be unfolded. Fun? You betcha! I Love certain titles, they are so imaginative, like Magical Thinking. Wow, that is one wonderful title, so I bought the book and began the process. Some take days and are labor intensive, others just”do” themselves. I went back and bought three more. Kind of says it all, a summary of my life: Repetition! I tend to do the same mistakes over and over and over Where would I be without Magical Thinking? Probably washing dishes, scrubbing floors and cleaning toilets and wondering where my life had got to. I need it!! As an installation I find it to be quite exciting and visually pleasing. I made the decision to sell them individually or as an installation, to accommodate people’s needs and space. Occasionally I mount more than one book on a background which has proven to be interesting as well. |
